brother kept in container to collect checks

Someone, apparently, kept their brother in a container to keep getting social security checks. A plastic container from Walmart was used.

I would have thought the smell would put you off. Or it would put me off anyway. It's like, what do you do if you find $250,000 in the street? It would be tempting to keep it, but all sorts of trouble if you get found out. Finders keepers?
