Up until fairly recently everyone's personal checks looked pretty much of a muchness. Sensible gray, brown or white with the crest of the bank or savings and loan in the top corner. Vaguely futuristic numbers at the bottom, you name somewhere in tiny letters...

Well in the last few years all that has changed and now there's a world of buying checks online with an almost bewildering amount of choice.

Some things stay the same however - it's still about banking which is a serious business, so even if you go for cartoon personal check designs, the bank still needs to be able to process them. Hence you'll still see the funny science fiction numbers across the bottom of your check.

These numbers are part of a bank specification called MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) and any company offering cheap blank checks should be fully up to speed on it.

Being banking the Federal Reserve still has something to say, so beneath the sports personal checks there's still a special type of paper to be found, specified by the central bank.

But that's about it. So long as you don't have some daft picture that stop the check being legible (too dark or some pattern that sends the eyes wonky), you can have what you fancy. Dog breed personal checks with animals, religious bank checks, even hawaiian check designs might be available online ... whatever takes you fancy.
